Today for Discovery Time we have been looking at birds from Mount Bruce. They came from Te Manawa. There were some birds eggs to look at. There was a kiwi egg, a chicken egg, an ostrich egg, owl egg and hummingbird eggs. The eggs were all different sizes. The ostrich egg was the biggest and the humming bird eggs were the smallest. They were tiny!!
There were some puppets, saddle back, kiwi and a pukeko. There were also some birds feet. The black shag's foot looked like a bat's wing. There was a foot with really long and sharp claws!
There were some puzzles where you have to figure out what the name was, what the beak does and what the feet does.
There were also some books that you could read. The books had information about the different birds.
We love native birds!
I can't believe the size of those Kiwi eggs. Just think how big the piece of toast would have to be if you had Kiwi Eggs on Toast! You'd have to use a bucket as an egg cup! It's a shame so many birds eggs get taken by predators like possums. Your trip to Mt Bruce looked amazing. You obviously listened well and saw lots of new and interesting things.
ReplyDeleteWow!your trip sounds really cool!I have seen ostrich eggs and they are massive! You said that you had seen humming bird eggs-did you see any humming birds as well? You may have seen some flying backwards as well-humming birds are one of the only birds in the world that can fly backwards.
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoyed your visit.
